Take it as a great option to get in touch with local culture and history. It's good to combine transportation and sightseeing together! Gostilje is a small village in the western Serbia. The village is famous for the waterfall system located nearby. The Gostilje waterfall is a certainly one of the most attractive hydrological values of Zlatibor area, as it is located about 25 km only away from Zlatibor. Last reviewed: 15 August 2024 Gostilje descriptionBefore the confluence of the river Katusnica the water of Gostilje river pours down the 20 m high limestone cliff, forming thus a unique waterfall. Downstream the brook forms some smaller waterfalls and cascades until it joins the river Katusnica. Harmoniously arranged rocks covered with moss and water breaking through them creating rapids make an impressive picture. And to top it all off - the waterfall! A jet of water falling from about 20 m sovereignly dominates this area. The entire area around the waterfall is a small oasis of untouched nature. The water is quite cold, but standing on the side you have the possibility to feel the effect of a cold shower, which is an ideal cooling off in the summer heat. Choose the place that suits you best (either on one of the rocks or on the grass around the water), indulge in pleasure, forget about everyday life and surrender to nature. Together with Mokra Gora (famous for narrow mountain railroad) and Trsic (probably the most well-know village in Serbia), Gostilje village are Serbian candidates for the best villages of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The decision was made by the national commission of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications. The goal of that initiative is to encourage rural development and the well-being of the local community through rural tourism. In addition to being woven with beauty, all three villages are an example of how good investments and the affirmation of micro-tourist localities can completely improve village life. The village Gostilje is truly an example where a handful of contents are offered in one small locality, starting with the Gostilje waterfall, which is visited by 100,000 visitors annually. The most beautiful sounds of fresh water from the waterfall on the Gostilje River is what makes this area an oasis, whose nature calms and awakens all senses at the same time. It's only 20 km away from the popular mountain Zlatibor, this a little place that many visitors of this lively mountain do not know about. However, it is said that once you visit this "tucked in" little village of Zlatibor and smell its fresh air for the first time, you have no doubts about revisiting it. The waterfall of fascinating beauty is the gem of this idyllic place that, according to the legend, got its name from the hospitality of its hosts. Serbian word Gost means guest, hence the name Gostilje. This waterfall is one of the biggest in Serbia, with the height of 20 meters and the enchanting nature that surrounds it, which makes a perfect combination of tamed nature on the one hand and fast, wild and impressive water flows on the other. Legends say that fairies used to bathe in this waterfall, and today visitors have the unique opportunity to enjoy and feel the power of untamed intact nature. The mossy rocks from which the water falls are indeed fairy-tale like, and if you stand far enough from the waterfall, you get a pleasant, natural refreshment. Numerous springs, rapids, waterfalls and whirlpools that can be noticed if you follow the flow of the river accompany the beauty of Gostilje. After a dynamic and exciting walk, you will get to a bridge on The Katusnica River, which will take you to completely different nature and give you a totally new and unique kind of experience. Namely, when you cross the bridge you will reach a true village idyll, full of peace and quiet. The whole ambiance will offer you a completely new experience of the place, giving you a chance to rest and enjoy yourself in peace, which will feel very good after a dynamic adrenaline-filled walk. The magical combination of silence and sound, of the peacefulness of the village river and the speed of the waterfall will give you an unusual experience and enjoyment, and once you have felt that for the first time, you have the need to come back again.
